As good as my intentions were this morning, I could not sit down at the computer for another long session of editing (10 hours in the last two days). I was just going to carry the now-dead marigolds to the potting shed. I said to myself, Don't get carried away, you've got a deadline! But no, after those pots, there were a few in the back, and then my roses to cover with leaves, and the empty bird feeders!
Then there were the colors to absorb: auburns, golds, chartreuse, yellows; the smells: neighborhood burn piles, fecundity, a stray dying rose, the blue spruce; and the feel of good earth ready to rest (worms having disappeared into the lower realms). And of course dear dog pulled my attention (newly recovered from losing two toenail covers and ready to romp). My adult kids' arrival delights me and we chat about garlic and bitterroots suddenly appearing again; but finally my tender back and the little Jiminey Cricket on my left shoulder turn me toward my office to greet you, and yes, begin again.
Here's to Saturdays full of surprises, delicious smells and familiar scenes now changing from waves of Autumn passing through. Hoping your day found you spinning and smiling in a friendly universe.
