Is it the dwindling light? or the downhill train toward Christmas? Is it bundling up summer projects, and creating winter projects? Whatever it is, my harvest time is full of creative projects, paying projects, family requests/obligations and nurturing activites that I won't give up. So as I sit with my desk scattered with demands, and only one day to complete them, my eyes drift to the yard, also scattered with projects, but they won't get attention this year.
Yesterday I spent the day at the Festival of the Book in Missoula. Now there's a cultural event I'll never miss again! Two and a half days full of incredible sharings from the likes of Annick Smith, Pete From, Rick Bass, Thomas McGuane, Chief Victor Charlo, with thousands of books, and a dozen small publishers scattered around the atrium at the Holiday Hotel. Worship of the written word in a world rapidly moving away from leisurely afternoons absorbed in a good book. But I'm pledging to have more of those afternoons, to access my friendly local library, and to return to my blue recliner that was gratefully inherited from my (now passed) mother-in-law. Why should the cat wear it out? Stay tuned as I share the wealth.
What are you reading, what do you recommend?
